Marco Moracci is Dirigente di Ricerca at the Institute of Biosciences and Bioresources (IBBR) of the National Research Council of Italy and he has been Assistant Professor of Enzymology – Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Naples “Federico II”, Naples (2001-2009).
Dr. Moracci is leader of a research unit in the projects ENERBIOCHEM (2012-2014) and BioPolis (2014-2016), Programma Operativo Nazionale PON 2007/13 – Regione Campania on the development and production of bioethanol and biochemicals from renewable sources. Leader of the Project “Exobiology and extreme environments: from molecules chemistry to the biology of the extremophiles” from the Italian Space Agency (2014-16), and he has been leader of a research unit in PRIN 2008, Regione Campania Competence Ceter BioTekNet (2000-2006) and coordinator of Galileo Italy-France and Italy Soth Africa mobility Projects.
Marco Moracci main research areas are discovery and structure/function characterization of carbohydrate active enzymes; enzymology and molecular biology of extremophiles; gene regulation and protein glycosylation in Archaea, chemo-enzymatic synthesis of carbohydrates. He has published more than 70 papers on peer-reviewed journals and is Associate Editor of FEMS Microbiology Letters, Archaea, and Extremophiles journals.
