Marco Vanoni, born in Milano in 1957, is Full Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Milano Bicocca, where he is member of SYSBIO, centre for Systems Biology and Director of the PhD School in Biology and Biotechnology. He spent his post-doctoral period at the Department of Biochemistry, Albert Einstein College of Medicine (NY, USA), and periods as visiting scientist at the Albert Einstein College and at the Department of Biochemistry of the Ecole Polytechnique (Paliseau , France). He is member of the Editorial Board of Frontiers in Physiology (section Systems Biology). His scientific interests include studies on protein structure and function, molecular aspects of signal transduction and cellular proliferation in yeast and normal and transformed mammalian fibroblasts. More recently he is applying post-genomic and systems biology approaches to the study of growth, cell cycle and metabolism interconnection in yeast and to the role of metabolic alterations in enhanced proliferation, drug resistance and metastatization in cancer.
